Family Law: Louise speaks to Lawyers once the cost agreement is sent, at a mutually agreeable time, to discuss their expectations of Louise and Louise’s expectations of them, including payment of fees. This allows both parties to know exactly what each other is expecting, thereby reducing risks of miscommunication and expectations, and this opens the lines for early open and honest communication, which Louise believes is essential to a successful professional relationship.
Criminal and/or Local Court Offences (Local Court may be direct access): Louise will discuss the case, fees and the way forward with direct access clients (if no solicitor involvement) and if a solicitor is briefed in the matter, with the solicitor, to ensure expectations are managed, thereby reducing stress and communication is open at the outset. Louise is on the Legal Aid General Panel and accepts Legal Aid briefs in the Local Court.
Common Law: Most common law claims are conditional. However, there will be exceptions that apply, which Louise will inform of at the time of engagement, which the lawyer can agree to or otherwise. Louise will discuss fees with the solicitor, once the cost agreement has been provided at a mutually beneficial time, which then creates an open discussion at the outset and then onwards.
